万方数据关联理论视域下《大美广西一美食之源》(上)的翻译项目报告摘要随着我国对外交流发展的日益频繁,外宣翻译变得越来越重要。在我国,外宣翻译的主要任务就是要将中文译成英文,或者是其他外文,向世界传播来自中国的声音。它在增进国际社会对我国的了解与合作,树立我国的良好国际形象,为国家发展创造良好的外部环境等方面发挥着重要的作用。《大美广西》主要反映了广西的经济社会发展、旅游资源和文化风土人情,重点展现广西的山水风光之美,民族文化之美、经济发展之美和社会和谐之美,是全方位展现广西新面貌的一个重要窗口。笔者经导师推荐,和广西电视台的项目负责人取得联系,参与合作翻译广西对外宣传片《大美广西》中的《美食之源》系列片。项目期始于2014年11月1日,并于2015年3月1日结束。该项目报告首先对翻译项目的来源,译前准备工作进行了介绍,并通过文本类型理论确定了文本的性质,进而决定了翻译的策略。在翻译过程的描述中,重点介绍了相关理论支撑下翻译策略的选择和译文的风格特点。笔者选取了该项目中具有代表性的案例进行分析,在不同的理论原则指导下,结合具体的翻译技巧得出了解决方案。此外,该报告还讨论了译文自我审校与他人审校相结合,对于提高译文质量和客户良好反馈的作用。最后,笔者结合本次项目实践,对外宣译员的职业素质进行探讨总结,并分析了该项目的问题与不足。关键词g地方美食;关联理论;字幕翻译 万方数据ProjectReportontheTranslationofTheBeautifulGuangxi-一OriginoftheDelicacies(PartOne)fromthePerspectiveofRelevanceTheoryABSTRACTAstheexchangesofChmawithforeigncountriesbecomemorefrequent,theinternationalpublicitytranslation(IPT)isgettingincreasinglyimportant.InChina,themaintaskofinternationalpublicitytranslationis,bytranslatingChineseintoEnglishorotherforeignlanguages,tointroduceChinatotheworld.Itwillplayanimportantroleinpromotingunderstandingandcooperationbyandwiththeinternationalcommunity,aswellasenhancingourinternationalimage,thuscreatingafavorableexternalenvironmentfornationaldevelopment.TheBeautifulGuangxireflectstheeconomicandsocialdevelopment,tourismresourcesandculturalcustomsofGuangxi.Itmainlyshowsthebeautyoflandscapes,ethniccultureandsocialharmonyofGuangxi,whichselvesasanimportantwindowtoseethenewlookofGuangxiinanall-roundway.Recommendedbythesupervisor,theauthorcontactedandgotapprovalfromGuangxiTelevisiontoworkasatranslatorforthesubtitlesofTheBeautifulGuangxi—OriginoftheDelicacies.TheprojectstartedonNovember1n,2014andendedOnMarch1sty2015.Thisprojectreportisdividedintofiveparts.Thefirstchapterintroducesthebackgroundinformationoftheproject,includingtheorigin,pre-translationpreparation,andthelinguistic 万方数据关联理论粳域下((大美广西一美食之源》(上)的翻译项目报告Chapter1DescriptionoftheTranslationProjectExcellenttranslationofpublicitymaterialswillhelppeoplefromothercountriesorregionstoknowbetteraboutGuangxi,whichisconducivetotheeconomicandsocialdevelopment,culturalandhistoricalconstruction,tourismprosperityaswellasthespreadofethniccustomsofGuangxi.AsawaytocomprehensivelyintroduceGuangxitotheworld,thepurposeofTheBeautifulGuangxi—OriginoftheDelicaciesistoexpoundthehistory,storiesandculturalconnotationsofthefamousdelicacies.Thepurposeandfeatureofthesourcetextdeterminetheselectionoftranslationstrategywhichcontributesalottothequalityoftranslationtext.Inlightofthis,thefeatureofthesourcetextiswhatmustbemadesureatfirst.1.1LinguisticFeaturesoftheOriginalTextPeterNewmark,animportantcontemporarytheoristintranslation,iswellknownforhistexttypologyandtranslationmethodology.Onthebasisofpredecessors’research,hefurtherdevelopedthetheorybydividingthefunctionoflanguageinto6categories:expressivefunction,informativefunction,vocativefunction,aestheticfunction,phaticfunctionandmetalanguagefunction.Accordingtothis,Newmarkalsoputforwardthatthereale6typesoftextrespectively:expressivetext,informativetext,vocativetext,aesthetictext,phatictextandmetalanguagetext.Amongthem,thefirstthreearemorecommonlyused,butNewmark(2001:42)stillpointedoutthat,“fewtextsarepurelyexpressive,informativeorvocative:mostincludeallthreefunctions,withanemphasisononeofthethree”.Thatmeans,therecouldbeoneormorefilnctionsinthetextofanytype,butonekindofwhichisgivenpriorityto. 万方数据关联理论覆域下《大美广西一美食之源》(上)的翻译项目报告Intheexpressivetext,itfocusesmoreontheauthor’Sideasorfeelingsinsteadofthereader’sresponse.Usually,thiskindoftextsincludeseriousimaginativeliterature,authoritativestatements,autobiography,andpersonalcorrespondence(c£Jia,2004:55).Asfortheinformativetext,Newmark(2001:40)believedthat,“typicalinformativetextsareconcemedwithanytopicofknowledge”.Itusuallyhasaformalandstandardform,inwhichscientificpapers,technicaltermsandnewspapers,etc.Allbelongtothetypicalinformativetexts(cf.Jiang,2007:212).Andvocativetexttakesthereadersasthecore.Itmainlyincludesallkindsofspecifications,publicitymaterials,advertisements,noticesandotherpersuasivewords(c£Jiang,2007:212).Fromabove,wemayconcludethattheprojectTheBeautifulGuangxi-OriginoftheDelicaciesaimstointeresttheaudiencebyshowingitsfamouscuisine.Therefore,itmainlybelongstovocativetext.Andfeaturesoftheoriginaltextare."first,vocativetextprefersshortandsimplesentences,makingiteasytounderstand,justastellingstoriestOtheaudience.Second,publicitymaterialisappealingtotheaudiencewithrhetoriclanguage,especiallytheexpressionswithChinesecharacteristics.1.2Pre-translationPreparation1.2.1TeamBuildingPre-translationpreparationisessentiallyimportantforthequalityandefficiencyofthetranslationproject.Astherearearound20,000ChineseCharactersinlength,itisconsideredasasmallproject.Therefore,a2-personteamwassetupbytheauthorandthepartnertoperformthistask.Divisionoftheworkwasbasedontheworkload(10,000ChineseCharactersperpersononaverage)andeachteammember’Sinterest.Specifically,theauthorWasresponsibleforPartOne(includingpassagesofDifferentWaysofHospitality,TheTasteof2 万方数据关联理论视域下(<大美广西一美食之源》(上)的翻译项目报告Nostalgia,LivebyandLiveOiltheSea)oftheproject,whicharemainlyaboutdifferentdelicacieswhenentertainingfriendsintownsofGuangxi;specialcuisinesandmorningteacultureinWuzhouCityaswellasthefamousseafoodinQinzhouCity.TheotherteammemberwasinchargeofPartTwo,whichincludessomeotherrenownedGuangxigourmetsfromLiuzhouCity,YangsuoCountyandFangchenggangCity.Agoodpartnerisalsoakeyelementtothesuccessofthetranslationproject.BeingaGuiangxinative,thepartnercontributesalottotheauthoringettingtheprojectanddiscussingproblemsconcernedintheproject,becauseheisrelativelyfamiliartothematerialsaboutGuangxi.Thecontinuityoftheoriginaltextmakesitavailableforthetranslationteamtoproofreadeachother’Stranslationtext,whichisbeneficialtothequalitycontrolofthetranslationprojectatlarge.1.2.2ParallelTextsBeforetranslating,theauthorandthepartnermadeclearofeachother’Sworkanddidpreparationssuchasmakingtheglossaryofterms,scheduleoftheprojectaswellassearchingforparalleltextsandreferences.Afterreadingthewholesourcetext,theteammembersselectedthetermsfromeachone’Sresponsiblepartoftheproject.translatedthemwiththehelpofe-dictionaryandInternet,anddeliveredthelistofglossaryviaemailstoeachother.BydoingSO,theteamcanhaveaneasyandfastaccesstothestandardtranslation,whichsavedthetimeandenergyduringthetranslationprocess.What’Smore,asweallknow,thedocumentaryABiteofChinaachievedgreatSuccessnotonlyinChinabutalsoaroundtheworld,whichowesagreatdealtothehighqualityofEnglishtranslationversion.AndOriginoftheDelicaciesisalsothepublicitymaterialaboutfood,inthiscase,theEnglishversionofandtherelevantreportsaboutABiteofCh/naaretheimportantparalleltexts.Referringtotheparalleltextsmakesitpossibleforthe
